A hard disk is typically connected to the motherboard through an interface known as SATA (Serial Advanced Technology Attachment) for data transfer. SATA technology was introduced in 2003, succeeding the PATA (Parallel Advanced Technology Attachment) interface used in earlier hard disks.

SATA hard disk drives are capable of transferring data between your PC and the hard drive at speeds of up to 6 gigabits per second (Gb/s), which means a data read or write rate of up to 6 gigabytes per second (GB/s).
